State of Inuit Culture and Society annual report released.

(September 8, 2016 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. Vice-President James Eetoolook today released the 2014/15 Annual Report on the State of Inuit Culture and Society, entitled Inuit Social and Cultural Self-determination.

Arctic Inspiration Prize (AIP) Accepting Nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2017 Arctic Inspiration Prize (AIP). In its sixth year, the total prize amount has been increased to up to $3 million and will be awarded through three categories: 1) $1 million awarded to one team; 2) up to $500,00 awarded to up to four teams; and 3) up to $100,000 for up to seven youth teams. Nominations will be accepted until October 23, 2017.

Government of Nunanvut - Public Service Announcement

The Department of Economic Development and Transportation is accepting funding application for the 2017-18 fiscal year for projects that help build the tourism, culture and arts sectors in Nunavut.

Community Centre Mural

Walk into the Community Centre/Hamlet Offices in Pangnirtung, and you will now be greeted by a brand new mural! Created in a workshop led by Iqaluit design organization NuSchool, Pangnirtung Youth explored their creativity using a modern medium - spray paint. The mural depicts the namesake of Pangnirtung, a bull caribou, as well as a school of Arctic char being fished from a small boat with the omnipresent mountains as a backdrop.

Municipal Elections

The nominations for the upcoming elections have been announced for the following positions: Mayor, Hamlet Councillor, District Education Authority (DEA) board member, Hunters and Trappers Organization (HTO) Chairperson, and HTO Director. The official notices of nominated candidates are attached.

The election will be held on December 9th, 2013.

Street naming in Pangnirtung has begun!

The Hamlet of Pangnirtung is looking for the input of all Panniqtuurmiut. Suggest a name for your street on the community survey you will be receiving in your mailbox, or come by the Hamlet next week (starting Tuesday, October 15th). Surveys can be dropped off at the Hamlet or Post Office, and all suggestions are due by October 31st.

Royal Canadian Navy community visit

The Royal Canadian Navy visited Pangnirtung in August with the HMCS Shawinigan. Community members climbed aboard for tours of the coastal defence vessel, and Navy crew members came ashore to explore Pangnirtung. While in town, the naval crew worked on cemetery improvements and donated recreational equipment - hula hoops and balls - to local children's organizations.
